INMAN, S.C.- Playing at the same time as the senior and super senior women, 10 mid-amateur women competed for one of the CGA’s newest championships. Connor Macon of Charlotte, N.C. battled the heat through 36 holes to win the Carolinas Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship in dominant fashion at Woodfin Ridge Golf Club.
In the first round, Macon was up and down in the first few holes. Michelle Jarman of Wilmington, N.C. took an early lead after she recorded birdies on Nos. 2 and 6. After a bogey on No. 9, she led by one stroke.
In the second half of round one, Macon carded two more birdies and Jarman scored a double bogey-bogey finish, giving Macon a two-stroke lead with a 71. Colleen Estes of Charlotte, N.C. and Courtney Stiles of Pinehurst, N.C. tied for third after round one each shooting 78.
For round two, Macon leaned on a consistent performance in the front nine to hold onto her lead. After staying at even par through nine holes, she took off on the back nine with three birdies and only one bogey. She shot 70 in round two to finish 3-under par, and ultimately win by eight strokes.
The Carolinas Golf Association would like to thank Head Golf Professional Matt Griffin, Superintendent Josh Henson, General Manager Hollie Storrier, and all the staff at Woodfin Ridge Golf Club for helping host a fantastic championship atmosphere.
